Young People

Musical Theatre Academy

It provides the chance for amateur performers and those interested in musical theatre to learn the workings of the theatre. They provide the facilities for professional direction, music and drama. Telford Drive

Telford Drive introduces students to a work environment. It provides training opportunities. Students confidence is developed by motivating pride in themselves and their surroundings. They encourage students to become valued members of society. Contact Mrs S Perkins on 01952 825396.

  • A partnership of agencies, including the Woodside Youth Worker proving health information and general advice to pupils - 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

  • Madeley: Community Health and Enterprise Centre (Chec Cafe) - 31 Madeley High Street
  • After school drop in session 3.30pm to 6.30pm where you can meet with youth and Connexions Workers.

  • Sutton Hill: TF7 Young Men's Group
  • Developing and fostering positive attitudes with local young men - 5.00pm to 7.00pm

  • A partnership of agencies, and Sutton Hill Youth Worker providing health information and general advice to pupils. 12.30pm to 1.30pm

  • Sutton Hill: TF7 Girls
  • Developing and fostering positive attitudes with local young women. 7.00pm to 9.00pm

  • Woodside Transition Group
  • Focusing on young people moving up from junior to senior youth provision.

 

 

In Addition:

Drop in open mixed youth clubs are open to all young people aged 13 to 19. Programmes of activities are informal and fun. Programmes vary from club to club and week to week. The programmes not only reflect what young people say they want, but respond to the issues that effect there lives.

Cost: All groups are free. Charges are sometimes made to become involved in a specific event or trip. Costs are kept to a minimum.

Voluntary Youth Groups: The Voluntary Sector Support Team offers advice, information and practical support. It is for those setting up or currently running a voluntary youth work group.

Open Award Centre (OAC) Madeley

The OAC is sited in Madeley Court Sports Centre. The role of the OAC is to be the focus of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (D of E) for the borough. Young people can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at the OAC or often at local schools.

During the day time the OAC is used by young people experiencing difficulties at school.

They are supported by OAC staff and enabled to participate in the D of E Award Scheme.

Sutton Hill Youth Centre

The Youth Workers support young people to become involved in a variety of additional activities throughout their teenage years. The youth workers actively encourage young people to organise their own activity programme and get involved.

Examples include: Kick Racism Out of Football - a local football event that supports a national initiative. In the past year young people have been to adventure parks, the Clothes Show and on over night residential activities.

With support from local partners, we organise and deliver a Summer Holiday Activity Programmes. During the long school summer holiday young people have become involved in a variety of fun activities. These include; swimming, fishing, speedway and racing.

Woodside - Park Lane Youth Centre

It has now moved to a new purpose built youth facility, within the Park Lane Centre. The Youth Project has its own entrance situated to the rear of the new Park Lane Centre.

The youth project gained an "excellent" standard in feedback from the Young People Survey. Local Police complimented the Youth Centre for its contribution towards reducing Crime figures. Young people are taking a keen interest in the Woodside Regeneration Project. The Regeneration Forum elects to support young peoples involvement.

With support from local partners, we organise and deliver a Summer Holiday Activity Programmes. During the long school summer holiday young people have become involved in a variety of fun activities. these include swimming, theme parks and the Greenwood Trust.

Park Lane Youth Centre - The SHY Project

What is SHY?

SHY is a confidential, information and support project for young people from Woodside.

The SHY project offers help and advise on health issues such as:

  • Sexual Health (Condom usage demonstration and handout)
  • Changes in your body
  • Help to Quit Smoking
  • Healthy Eating
  • Mental Health
  • Or anything else that may concern you

Young people who may benefit from this project can visit the Youth Worker Cindy Shaw at the Drop-in Session. Alternatively, contact her directly by Phone/Text 07812016685.
